POSITIONS: Youth Care Workers at Portage Place Co-ed Therapeutic Youth Home (Portage) and the Missouri River Youth and Shelter Home for Boys (MRYSH).
OPENING DATE: Immediately.
CLOSING DATE: On-going.
START DATE: Upon hiring and training.
SALARY: At Portage begins at $10.05/hr increasing to $10.25/hr. upon successfully completing the ninety (90) probationary period. Existing staff if hired, will receive a wage commensurate with his/her tenure corresponding to the Portage Place wage scale. They will not be subject to the probationary period if they have attained permanent employment status. Position will also be eligible for vacation leave, sick time, and health insurance upon satisfactorily completing the ninety-day (90) probationary period. They will also be eligible to participate in the retirement program after one (1) year of employment.
The MRYSH wage is $9.10/hr. with no fringe benefits unless the applicant is interested in a guaranteed four (4) additional hours, then the wage increases to $9.30 after satisfactorily completing the ninety-day (90) probationary period. The position would then also be eligible for the fringe benefits described above. Additional hours exceeding twenty per week may be available.
POSITION DESCRIPTION: A twenty-six (26) hour shift scheduled to work Friday from 6:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. & Saturday from 8:00 a.m. until midnight at Portage AND a sixteen (16) hours shift on Saturday from 8:00 a.m. until midnight at MRYSH, with additional hours as described above if the applicant is interested.
The below described DUTIES and MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS are not meant to be all inclusive or restrictive in nature. A job description containing the detailed minimum requirements and duties of the position will be provided to the applicant hired.
DUTIES: Responsible for the care, guidance, and supervision of up to (8) youth within prescribed program policies. Specific duties include: assigning, supervising and monitoring household chores, supervising and chaperoning recreational activities, providing personal/crisis related counseling and social skills training, preparing nutritious and well balanced meals; attending staff meetings and training sessions; maintaining daily logs of events and residents’ behaviors; implementing and monitoring individual treatment plans of youth; maintaining discipline; conducting bed checks during the evening, and resolving milieu disruption issues.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Ability to communicate and relate with youth of divergent backgrounds, staff, social service agencies, and the community at large; to organize one's time efficiently and wisely; to work with minimal supervision; to communicate effectively orally and in writing; to develop and implement creative behavior change intervention strategies; and to work under stressful conditions. Prior experience working with troubled, delinquent, and/or emotionally disturbed youth in a residential "type" group care setting, and developing treatment plans. A working knowledge of adolescent behavior and needs; crisis management, conflict resolution, and counseling techniques; and community resources. Demonstrated problem solving skills. A high school degree or its equivalent is required. A BA degree or post high school education is preferred.
Must have a valid Montana Drivers License. The individual hired will be subject to child protection, criminal background, and driving record checks. Any adverse reports/findings could disqualify you for employment.
